Sebastian Wehle

Sebastian Wehle (born February 18, 1989 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician ( saxophone , piano , bass clarinet ) and composer .

Live and act

Wehle began playing the piano at the age of five and took lessons in this subject for eleven years. In 2002 he switched to the saxophone, initially with lessons from Arnim Wittich and Marcus Kesselbauer. He attended the advanced music course at Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium in Bad Tölz , took part in workshops at Jazz Juniors in Bavaria and in 2005 in the master's workshop with Don Menza . From 2006 he was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Bavaria and since 2007 a member of the band Blindflug (Bundessieger Jugend jazzt 2007). Since 2008 he has been studying with Johannes Enders at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig. In 2011 he was a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation and spent autumn 2012 to summer 2013 in Lucerne. There were also lessons and workshops with jazz musicians such as Mark Turner , Jerry Bergonzi , Tony Malaby , Hubert Nuss , Richie Beirach , Jay Ashby , Florian Ross , Billy Elgart , Achim Kaufmann , Bert van den Brink , Harald Rüschenbaum , Holger Nell , Karsten Gorzel , Matthias Anton , Chris Wiesendanger , Nat Su .

Wehle currently plays in the formations PLOT with Robert Lucaciu and Philipp Scholz , Castravez , The Blue Pony and as a soloist in the Arne Donadell Quartet. He leads his own septet and has been part of the big band Spielvereinigung Süd since September 2013 . He has also performed with musicians such as Harald Rüschenbaum , Wolfgang Muthspiel , Richie Beirach , Johannes Enders , Pepe Berns , Frank Köllges and Heinrich Köbberling . He can also be heard from Schorsch Cameroon on the album Der Mensch geht nach nach .

Prizes and awards

Wehle is a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and has received national awards, including the 2005 and 2007 Youth jazzt award from the State Ministry for Science and Art of Saxony and the Hans & Eugenia Jütting Foundation in 2009. In 2007 he received the studio prize at the Jugend jazzt competition. In November 2014 the band PLOT won the Young Munich Jazz Prize .
