history

Swechselberg was mentioned as Sassenberch in a deed of donation from Emperor Konrad II as early as 1027 , in which he gave an imperial forest near Murrhardt to Würzburg Bishop Meginhard I and his diocese of Würzburg . The place name Sechselberg is traced back to a forced settlement of Saxons prisoners of war by Charlemagne around the year 800. In the 14th century, the village became part of Württemberg, after it had previously probably been in the possession of the Lords of Ebersberg.

As an independent municipality, Sechselberg was only established in 1819. The place was part of the Kingdom of Württemberg until 1918 , of the Free People's State of Württemberg from 1918 and of Württemberg-Baden from 1945 to 1952 . Administratively, Sechselberg belonged to the Oberamt Backnang , since 1938 to the district of Backnang and was incorporated into Althütte on July 1, 1971.

On February 24, 1981, the engine of a Pershing IA semi-trailer went up in flames near Sechselberg . As a result, both stages of the loaded rocket burned down, and individual parts were thrown several hundred meters. The place was temporarily evacuated.
