The Seim ( Russian and Ukrainian Сейм ; also Sejm ) is a 748 km long, left and largest tributary of the Desna in the west of the European part of Russia and in northeastern Ukraine .
It rises in the Belgorod Oblast in the south of the Central Russian Upland west of Gubkin . Without flowing through this city, the river turns from its source in a westerly direction via Kursk to Sosnyzja , where it flows into the Desna a little below. In the lower reaches of the Seim flows through the Dnepr lowlands .
The catchment area of the Seim covers 27,500 km².
Other cities on the Seim are Lgow , Rylsk , Putywl and Baturyn . The Kursk nuclear power plant is also located on the Seim .
