Raumland sparkling wine house
Sekthaus Raumland is a winery and sparkling wine producer based in Flörsheim-Dalsheim . The house was founded in 1984 by Volker Raumland. Since then, his goal has been to produce the best possible quality sparkling wine for himself and his customers . The basis for this are the positions of the southern Rhine Hesse and Pfalz , as well as the classical varieties Pinot Noir , Müllerrebe , Pinot and Chardonnay . The Sekthaus Raumland has been a member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP) since January 1, 2020, making it the first pure VDP.
history
Volker Raumland (* 1955) is the second son of the Palatinate winemaker couple Willi and Hedwig Raumland in Bockenheim an der Weinstrasse . Volker Raumland first completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in Mannheim and then worked in his parents' company. He then studied oenology and beverage technology at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences from 1980 to 1984 .
Raumland developed the idea of a mobile sparkling wine cellar together with other Geisenheim students in a business management lecture. The basis for this was the efforts of many winemakers to offer their own sparkling wine , but they lacked the special expertise and facilities to produce it.
After initially producing sparkling wine mainly for external needs, Raumland commercialized his sparkling wine himself. Raumland first produced base wines suitable for sparkling wine production in order to meet the requirements for first-class sparkling wine. Suitable terroir , healthy grapes, organic production methods , careful hand-picking and gentle whole bunch pressing without maceration form the basis of his philosophy. The musts are subjected to malolactic fermentation , as required, to malolactic fermentation , so that the addition of sulfur can be minimized. The company's own vineyards in and around Dalsheim are 10 hectares.
As at the beginning of production, great importance is still attached to quality-oriented cellar management. The legally prescribed minimum storage time of one year for quality sparkling wine is often significantly exceeded. Some sects only come on the market after ten or twelve years, which of course requires adequate storage capacities and a high capital commitment.
The top product of the sparkling wine house is called the triumvirate and is based closely on the production of champagne . It is a cuvée from the single site " Dalsheimer Bürgel ", which extends exactly west of the center of Dalsheim. It is made from Pinot Noir , Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. In 2010 the 5th Triumvirate - Grande Cuvée Brut came onto the market. Eichelmann rated the sparkling wine with 91, Gault Millau with 92 points.
Since 1990 Volker Raumland and his wife Heide-Rose have lived and worked in a Wilhelminian style villa owned by the furniture manufacturer Philipp Merkel in the Dalsheim district with ten hectares of adjacent wine-growing area. Heide-Rose Raumland comes from the Wöhrwag winery in Stuttgart and her brother Hans-Peter studied together with Volker Raumland in Geisenheim. They have two daughters, Marie-Luise, who studied business administration , and Katharina. Raumland has named some of its sects after his wife and daughters.

In recent years the estate has received the following honors and awards:
- Gault-Millau Wine Guide: 4.5 grapes Four Raumland sparkling wines made it into the top ten of the country's best sparkling wines. The house's sparkling wines have already won the Gault Millau Wine Guide's “Best German Sparkling Wine” category several times in a row.
- " Eichelmann Germany's Wines " rated the winery four out of five stars and the quote: "Unique in Germany"
- The wine guide of the magazine “ Der Feinschmecker ” ranks the estate in 2010 with three and a half out of five Fs among the best German wineries.
- The Sommelier Magazin , the association organ of the Sommelier Union, wrote in 2012 about Raumland's sects: “The best that is currently available.” Two of the top 4 sects from Germany come from this house.
