The transmitter Langenburg is a basic network transmitter of the German radio tower for the transmission of radio signals. It is located about two kilometers northeast of the Baden-Württemberg city of Langenburg . A 150-meter-high guyed tubular steel mast, which was built in 1966, is used as the antenna carrier.
The station supplies the northeastern part of Baden-Württemberg around the cities of Schwäbisch Hall , Künzelsau and Crailsheim .
From December 21, 1966, the transmitter site originally served the analogue broadcasting of the ZDF television program (channel 28, 200 kW) and, from 1969, also the third TV program, Südwest 3 (channel 42, 200 kW).
From 1987 radio sound broadcast on the frequency 100.1 MHz; this had to be assigned to antenna 1 in 1994 . Radio Ton was assigned the frequency 88.6 MHz for this.
On November 5, 2008, with the conversion to the digital television standard DVB-T , which is now being transmitted by the Waldenburg-Friedrichsberg broadcaster, television broadcasting operations at the Langenburg site were discontinued. The top mast segment, the GRP cylinder with the television antenna, was then removed. The total height of the structure was reduced from 173 to 150 meters.
Antenne 1 has been operating its transmitter and antenna system on its own since 2016. For this purpose, another antenna field was installed on the mast under the existing VHF antenna field. The trigger was a price increase by the previous network operator Media Broadcast , which, according to data published by the Federal Network Agency , estimated EUR 316,000 annually for antenna use alone.
