Senqu ( English Senqu Local Municipality ) is a local municipality in the Joe Gqabi district of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa . The seat of the local government is in Lady Gray . Until 1994 a part of the municipality belonged to the former Homeland Transkei . Mayor is Nomvuyo Patricia Mposelwa.
Senqu is the Sesotho name of the Orange River on which the municipality is located.
The 3001 meter high Ben MacDhui is located in the municipality .

In 2011 the community had 134,150 inhabitants. Of these, 97.3% were black, 1.2% colored and 1.1% white. The first language was 73.6% IsiXhosa , 20% Sesotho, 2.4% Afrikaans and 1.3% English.
