Sergei Vladimirovich Nemilov

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sergei Wladimirowitsch Nemilow ( Russian Сергей Владимирович Немилов ; born January 3, 1939 in Moscow ) is a Russian physical chemist and university professor .

Life

Nemilov, son of the chemist Vladimir Nemilov , graduated from school with a gold medal in 1956. He then studied chemistry at the Leningrad University . From 1957 he worked in the group of RL Müller, who developed chalcogenide glasses for optical applications. With a diploma thesis in this area Nemilow graduated in 1961. This was followed by an apprenticeship with RL Müller at the Optics Institute (GOI) in Leningrad , so that in 1965 he successfully defended his candidate dissertation in the field of chalcogenide glasses and thus became widely known. He stayed at the GOI (until 2005) and headed the laboratory founded by IV Grebenchtschikow from 1970–1991 . In 1971 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis , with which he identified himself as a physical chemist.

Nemilow investigated the laws of the relationships between properties and structures in glasses and crystals . At the center of the crystallization processes in glass melts, their standing thermodynamic description, the mechanisms of viscous flow and elastic properties of glasses, depending on the inter- atomic potentials . He published his results in around 180 articles in national and international journals, mostly without a co-author . In 1997 he received the IW Grebenchtschikow Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences for his work on the thermodynamics of glass formation.

1965-1967 Nemilov held in addition to his research work, the lecture crystal chemistry of semiconductors at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute and chemical kinetics and catalysis at the University of Leningrad. In 1988 he was appointed professor of physical chemistry . Since 1992 he has taught at the State University for Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics Saint Petersburg (SPB-GU-ITMO) as a delegation of the GOI. In 2002 he was visiting scholar at McMaster University in Hamilton (Ontario) . Since 2005 he has been professor at the chair for opto- informatics technology and materials at SPB-GU-ITMO and reads on the physical chemistry of glasses and optical glasses . He is also a reviewer for international journals such as the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids , Thermochimica Acta , Physica B (Physics of Condensed Matter) and Philosophical Magazine .
