Shan S. Tsutsui (born August 9, 1971 in Wailuku , Hawaii ) is an American politician . He has been Vice Governor of the State of Hawaii since 2012 .

Career

In 1989, Shan Tsutsui graduated from Maui High School . He then studied at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa until 1994 . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 2003 and 2012 he was a member of the Hawaii Senate , of which he was president since 2010. In his private life he works as a consultant for an insurance company.

When the previous Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz moved up to the US Senate for the late Daniel Inouye in 2012 , Tsutsui became the new Vice Governor of Hawaii as Chairman of the State Senate. He has held this office since December 27, 2012. He is Deputy to Governor Neil Abercrombie . Although Governor Abercrombie missed his party's nomination in the run-up to the gubernatorial election and was replaced by State Senator David Ige , Tsutsui will also serve as lieutenant governor under him. He was elected at Iges side for a full four years in November 2014. On December 1 of that year he took on a full four-year term as Vice Governor of the new Governor David Ige.

Shan Tsutsui is married and has three children.
