The Shinkansen series E5 ( Japanese 新 幹線 E5 系 電車 , Shinkansen E5-kei densha ) is a Japanese high-speed train operated by the operator JR East . The E5 series is based on the FASTECH 360 test train and is used for the Tōhoku Shinkansen route. The design of the head and end cars of the E5 series are particularly streamlined, in particular to counteract the tunnel bang .
history
The E5 series was developed directly from the experimental high-speed train FASTECH 360 . The aim of the project was to replace the trains of the 200 and E1 series . After the successful end of the FASTECH 360 project, 10 pre-series E5 trains were produced. The first pre-series train with the designation S11 was delivered in May 2009. Compared to the FASTECH 360, the vehicle nose has been shortened from 16 to 15 meters. The test drives took place mainly between Sendai and Kitakami . During these test drives, the S11 reached a top speed of 320 km / h in continuous operation. This enabled the pre-series vehicles to meet the requirements for series production, so that 49 series models were ordered. The pre-production vehicles have been converted to production standards and are in commercial use.
The first three series trains were first used on March 5, 2011 between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori or Sendai as a Hayabusa connection. The trains run at a maximum speed of 275 km / h between Ōmiya and Utsunomiya and 300 km / h between Utsunomiya and Morioka. On November 19, 2011, three more series trains were on the Hayate - and Yamabiko taken compounds in operation, while the maximum speed of trains to 275 km / h limited (between Omiya and Utsunomiya to 240 km / h). This means that some trains with the E3 series can be coupled between Tokyo and Morioka. Since spring 2013, the top speed of the Hayabusa connection between Utsunomiya and Morioka has been 320 km / h.
Since the commissioning of the E6 series as a replacement for the E3 series on the Akita Shinkansen , the E5 series trains with the E6 series on the Tōhoku Shinkansen have been operated in traction at a maximum speed of 320 km / h.
Facility
Unlike most other Shinkansen trains, the E5 has three classes : the normal class (2nd class), the green class (1st class) and the gran class .
2nd class, normal class
The 2nd class is the simplest and therefore also the cheapest class of the Shinkansen E5. The chairs are 1,040 millimeters apart.
1st class, green class
The first class is more luxurious than the second class. The 48 seats per car are spaced 1,160 millimeters apart. The seats are 475 millimeters wide.
The gran class
The gran class is the most luxurious and therefore also the most expensive class on the train. The seats are 1,300 millimeters apart and are 520 millimeters wide.
Technology & appearance
The Shinkansen series E5 looks very similar to the FASTECH 360 from the outside. The nose of the vehicle has been shortened by one meter to 15 meters. The upper half of the trains is turquoise / green, the lower half white, and a pink stripe runs in the middle.
fleet
As of December 2018, 40 trains including the pre-series vehicle have been delivered.
