The Shinkansen series H5 ( Japanese 新 幹線 H5 系 電車 , Shinkansen H5-kei densha ) is a Japanese high-speed train operated by the operator JR Hokkaidō , which was procured for use on the Hokkaidō Shinkansen . The H5 series is based on the E5 series , which has been used by JR East on the Tōhoku Shinkansen since 2009 .
history
The first construction phase of the Hokkaidō Shinkansen between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto was opened on March 26, 2016. The trains are from Shin-Aomori on the Tohoku Shinkansen to Tokyo by bound . For this reason, JR Hokkaidō decided to purchase the H5 series trains that have the same technical performance data and space capacity as the E5 series already in use on the Tōhoku Shinkansen. This makes it possible for both series to be able to drive the route together.
In April 2014, the order for four sets from JR Hokkaidō was announced. The first two sets of the H5 series were delivered by ship to Hokkaidō in October 2014, as the Shinkansen route was not yet open to traffic. The first test drives on the new route began in December. The other two vehicles were delivered in May and August 2015.
technology
The trains of the H5 series are almost entirely based on the E5 series. This applies to both the external shape, such as the distinctive 15-meter-long nose of the control car, as well as the performance data and top speed. This is 320 km / h on the Tōhoku Shinkansen and 260 km / h on the Hokkaidō Shinkansen . In the Seikan tunnel , which the Shinkansen shares with the conventional railway network via three- rail tracks, the maximum speed is limited to 140 km / h. The travel time between Shin-Hakodate and Tokyo is to be reduced to 4 hours 10 minutes.
Eight of the ten cars in a set of the H5 series will be powered by traction motors and each two cars will have a pantograph .
Appearance and equipment
The exterior color of the H5 series largely corresponds to that of the E5 series, but the pink decorative stripe of the E5 series has been replaced by a lilac stripe, which symbolizes the multitude of lavender fields in Hokkaidō. The space capacity of the H5 series corresponds to that of the E5 series. 658 seats are offered in normal 2nd class, 55 seats in 1st class ( Green Class ) and 18 in luxury class ( Gran Class ). The color of the interior also differs slightly from the E5 series. The topic of snow should be taken up here.
