history

In the 1920s, August Siekmann († 1955) built a factory for the manufacture of kitchen furniture on the premises of the Cologne-Mindener Bahn, and in 1929 he founded the August Siekmann furniture factory . The first kitchens were named "Erna", "Hannelore" and "Ruth". Large parts of the site were destroyed during the Second World War , but kitchen production was resumed as early as 1946. In 1955 his son August-Wilhelm Siekmann († August 29, 2004) took over management of the company. In 1960 SieMatic presented the first kitchen with an integrated handle bar. In addition, from then on SieMatic was used as the company and brand of the entire company. At the beginning of the 1970s, the capacities of the main plant in Löhne were expanded considerably. The company achieved sales of over 100 million German marks for the first time and founded subsidiaries in other European countries. In 1979 SieMatic entered the US market and founded a subsidiary there.

In 1994 Ulrich W. Siekmann took over the management of his father's company. In the 1990s SieMatic was one of the first kitchen furniture manufacturers to use medium-density fibreboard for their products. After the turn of the millennium, the interior fittings of kitchens gained in importance: For example, kitchen furniture with integrated multimedia cabinets for office work was presented at imm cologne 2003 . In 2004 SieMatic opened a new exhibition center, the “August-Wilhelm-Siekmann-Forum”, at its headquarters. In addition, a new logistics center was built nearby. For some years now, wood shavings and dust that are generated in wages during production have been collected and burned for the company's heating. Overall, SieMatic's premises today extend over 70,000 square meters.

The Chinese Nison Group has been the majority owner of the Siematic company since October 2017 . The two family shareholders Ulrich W. Siekmann and Kathrin André will remain minority shareholders in SieMatic.

Products

SieMatic S1 in black

SieMatic presented the S1 in spring 2008. This is one of the company's best-known products, for the development of which the integration of living and dining areas played a special role. Observers emphasized the integration of lighting and multimedia systems. These can be controlled via the central control panel. An edition of the S1, which has an internet radio and many other functions, was presented at CeBIT 2009 and was part of a model apartment at the Technical University of Berlin . The SieMatic S1 received various prizes, including the Red Dot Design Award in five categories including “best of the best”. In 2009 the company introduced the S2, which took over individual elements from the S1, but is cheaper. The SieMatic S3, which is the entry-level model, has also been available since 2012. In addition to the S1, S2 and S3, the 6006 is one of the best-known products from SieMatic. It is described by observers as the “evergreen” of handleless kitchens and “minimalist design classic”.

SieMatic does not organize its kitchens according to programs, but according to so-called "style worlds". These are intended to facilitate individual planning. There are currently three style worlds called “Classic”, “Pure” and “Urban”. According to the company, “Classic” is characterized by traditional elements, while “Pure” reduces the design of the kitchens to the essentials and emphasizes the materials used. "Urban" is the latest style that was presented in early 2015. Its characteristic element is the SieMatic 29 kitchen buffet , which received the German Design Award in 2016 . In addition to kitchen furniture, SieMatic also offers its own products for kitchen interiors. These included, for example, drawers with non-slip floors made of oak and rubber based on the model of ship floors. SieMatic basically offers its interior fittings in wood , plastic or aluminum , which can also be combined. The company has also received several awards for its interior fittings.

The company exhibits in so-called “flagship stores” in Amsterdam , New York City and Beijing . The magazine “Kitchen and Bath Business” named the location in Midtown Manhattan as “Showroom of the Year 2014” for its combination of functionality, efficiency and design.
