The street Sielwall is a historical street in Bremen on the border of the districts Bremen-Mitte , district Ostertor and Ostliche Vorstadt , district Steintor . It leads in a north-south direction from Am Dobben to Osterdeich on the Weser .
The cross streets were named as Ostertorsteinweg , as they lead to the earlier Ostertor (1238–1802 / 04) in the Bremen city wall , Vor dem Steintor after the historic Steinthorn , consisting of a drawbridge over the Dobben next to a watchtower, Bernhardstraße and Luisenstraße from 1854 after the first names, Körnerwall after the poet Körner , Im Krummen Arm because of the crooked route, Blücherstraße after Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher , Auwigstraße from 1852 after the building contractor Lüder Auwig, Prangenstraße, Kreuzstraße , Borchwersweg after the building contractor Borchers; otherwise see the link to the streets.
history
Surname
In 1861 the street was named after the Wesersiel there at the transition from the Punkendeich to the Eisenradsdeich .
development
The district did not develop until after 1849 when the Bremen gate was lifted and the suburban citizens received the same citizenship as the old town citizens. The social structure changed considerably until 1880. Wealthy merchants and higher officials now lived here in Bremen houses instead of simple shifts in simple houses. The neighboring district of Steintor then developed quickly until around 1890.
Both districts are colloquially known as Das Viertel in Bremen .
A gate at the Sielwall / Osterdeich confluence was built in 1890 according to plans by Eduard Gildemeister as a street decoration for the visit of Kaiser Wilhelm II on April 21st. Around 1900 the bathing establishment on Werderstrasse on the left bank of the Weser was relocated to Osterdeich near Sielwall.
The Sielwall Crossing was the focal point of the Bremen drug scene in the 1980s.
At the intersection there were New Year's Eve riots in the late 1980s and 1990s with the use of large police forces.
The Lila Eule jazz bar and the art house cinema in the Ostertor are located near the Sielwall crossroads .
traffic
The Bremen tram touches the Sielwall with lines 2 ( Gröpelingen - Am Brill - Domsheide - Sebaldsbrück ), 3 (Gröpelingen - Überseestadt - Am Brill --Domsheide - Weserwehr ) and 10 (Gröpelingen - Walle - Hauptbahnhof - Sebaldsbrück ).
The Sielwall ferry Halöver sails over the Weser to Café Sand . It has its pier on the Osterdeich.
