Sigismund von Rosen
Sigismund Ludwig Carl von Rosen (born February 23, 1827 in Segeberg , Holstein , † April 18, 1864 in Düppel , Schleswig ) was a royal Danish staff officer at the Army High Command .
Life
He came from the official and officer family Rose, first mentioned in Stralsund in 1622, and was the third son of the royal Danish bailiff and chamberlain Wilhelm von Rosen (1788-1853) and Sophie Decker (1799-1868). His two older brothers were the royal Danish chief president and chamberlain Carl von Rosen (1819-1891) and the royal Prussian district president Alfred von Rosen (1825-1912).
He began his military career in 1844 as a cadet (1844) for the 1st Jägerkorps , where he was soon promoted to second lieutenant. In 1846 he was at the royal military college and in 1848 took part in the Schleswig-Holstein war with his hunter corps . In 1849, Rosen was appointed adjutant to the Artillery Command as Premier Lieutenant . Having distinguished himself as a determined officer several times, he returned to the military college and in 1853 was a candidate for the general staff.
In the same year, on July 7, 1853 in Copenhagen , Rosen married Franziska Viborg (born August 20, 1835 in Copenhagen, † February 10, 1912 in Færgegaarden , Lolland ), the daughter of the General War Commissioner and Budget Officer Niels Viborg , head of department in the Danish Ministry of the Navy, and the Hansigne Henriette Fogh . The couple had two daughters and a son.
In 1855 he was promoted to captain 2nd class in the general staff and in 1857 transferred as captain 1st class to the chief of staff of the 3rd general command. In 1863 he became a staff officer as a sous-chief at the Army High Command. In this function he took part in the council of war in the Prince's Palace on February 5, 1864 and advocated the withdrawal from the Danewerk . Promoted to major in March 1864 . Just one month later, at the age of 37, he was killed in the German-Danish War in the battle of the Düppeler Schanzen .
The portrait drawing by the Danish painter Niels Simonsen (1807–1885) from 1849, which shows Rosen as a young first lieutenant, is now in the Frederiksborg Museum .
