Simon I. (Lippe)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon I zur Lippe (* around 1261; † August 10, 1344 ) was sovereign of the Lippe rule from 1273 to 1344 .

Life

He is a son of Bernhard IV and Agnes von Kleve. He is the great-nephew of Simon I , a bishop of Paderborn.

In 1302 he suffered a defeat in a territorial dispute against the bishops of Münster , Osnabrück and Paderborn as well as the Count of Ravensberg and the city of Herford. As a result, he had to grind the Enger castle that belonged to him . The reason for the clashes were complaints about his alleged raids, which mainly affected the monastery area of Osnabrück . An alliance came about between Ludwig von Ravensberg (Bishop of Osnabrück), his brother Count Otto von Ravensberg , the bishops of Paderborn, Münster and the city of Herford. First he was trapped in his castle in 1302 and besieged until the structure was finally captured. Simon I was captured and held in the Bucksturm in Osnabrück . He was released after a year and a half. He was required to grind the castle.

In 1323 he expanded the territory by acquiring Varenholz Castle and the Gogericht Langenholzhausen. Under his reign, the Lippe dominion achieved its greatest territorial expansion.
