Simon kick

Simon Kick (* 1603 in Delft ; † before September 26, 1652 in Amsterdam ; actually Simon Willemsz. Kick , mistaken names: Kick, Jan; Cicke, J.) was a Dutch painter .

Life

Simon Kick was the son of a paintworker from Amsterdam who lived in Delft . Before 1624 he moved to Amsterdam, where his presence for the years 1631, 1633, 1643, 1646, 1647, 1651 and 1652 is documented. Nothing is known about his training, but his earliest works, the portrait studies in Dayton and Amsterdam , which are dated to the years 1637 and 1639, suggest an influence by Rembrandt . At the same time he painted his first guard room scenes during this time, for which he is especially famous. He thus joins the group of genre painters , including Dirck Hals , Jacob Duck , Pieter Codde and above all Willem Duyster . He was particularly deeply connected to the latter, because he married his sister Christina (Stijntje) Duyster on September 5, 1631. The wedding took place on the same day that Willem Duyster married Simon Kick's sister Margrieta. His son Cornelis also learned the profession of a painter. Although there are no known still lifes of Simon Kick , it can be assumed that he was his son's teacher.

Simon Kick was buried in Amsterdam on September 26, 1652.
