Simone Ruffini (born December 7, 1989 in Tolentino ) is an Italian open water swimmer . In 2015 he became world champion over 25 kilometers.
successes
At the 2015 World Swimming Championships on the Kazanka River in Kazan , Russia , he won the 25 km in 4: 53: 10.7 hours ahead of the American Alex Meyer (4: 53: 15.1 h) and his compatriot Matteo Furlan (4:54 : 38.0). At the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona he finished seventh behind the Greek Spyros Gianniotis (4: 47: 31.3) over the same distance in 4: 47: 42.7h when Thomas Lurz won in 4: 47: 27.0.
At the European Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2010 , he achieved bronze in the 5 km hunting race with the Greek Spyros Gianniotis in 59: 15.9 minutes behind his compatriots Luca Ferretti (58: 43.4) and Simone Ercoli (59:00, 5). In the mixed team over 5 km together with Ercoli and Rachele Bruni there was silver in 59: 03.0 behind Greece (59: 55.6) and ahead of the Russians (59: 59.5).
Ruffini was the 2011 Universiade winner in Shenzhen, China, over 10 kilometers in 1: 58: 00.47, ahead of a Russian and a Japanese.
Private
Ruffini is in a relationship with the Italian freestyle swimmer Aurora Ponselè . From the winners' podium in Kazan, he made her a "written" marriage proposal. Aurora's answer: “È sí!”
