Size Isn't Everything is the Bee Gees' 20th studio album . It was published by Polydor in September 1993 .
history
Size Isn't Everything was the first album of a new recording deal with Polydor after a three-album deal with Warner was fulfilled. On March 5, 1992, Hugh Gibb, the father of the three Bee Gees, had died on the birthday of their younger brother Andy Gibb , who had died in 1988. While working on the album, which began in 1992, the Bee Gees wanted to revert to the sound of previous records. However, they did use some modern elements, such as those from hip-hop. The album's first single, Paying the Price of Love , peaked at number 23 in the UK. The second, For Whom the Bell Tolls , became a top five hit in the UK. The latter piece also became a great success in South America (No. 1 in Brazil, the album reached No. 1 in Argentina because of this track). Despite the success in these comparatively small markets, the album was a relative failure, it only reached number 153 in the USA - which was even better than the previous album, which could not even place there.
criticism
On the website Allmusic .com critics gave 3 out of 5 stars. After the Bee Gees hit very modern sounds on High Civilization , they would have tried the same on Size Isn't Everything . William Ruhlmann wrote: "The Bee Gees are persistent and they work hard for the money, carefully cloning current fashion with Size Isn't Everything."
