The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs is the first music album of the Bee Gees , in 1965 Australia published.

production

When the album was released in November 1965, the band had a first small hit in Australia with the single "Wine And Women", after all singles released since 1963 had gone unnoticed by the audience. The record label took this opportunity to release these older songs on an album. There was also the current single and four other new compositions by Barry Gibb .

The oldest recordings on the album come from the second single from the summer of 1963 ("Timber", "Take Hold Of That Star"). The single "Claustrophobia" recorded with the later Delawares as a backing band is also included.

Bill Shepherd recorded seven songs as a producer with the Bee Gees, all of which can be found on this album. Shepherd, better known as an easy-listening arranger, gave the band a breath of fresh air by giving them a more modern, guitar-heavy sound.

Robin Gibb can be heard as a soloist for the first time on “I Don't Think It's Funny” .

Both the album and the parallel released single "I Was a Lover, a Leader of Men" could not repeat the small success of "Wine And Women".

The album was reissued in 1966 on the Calendar label in Australia. The songs on the album were later also found on the albums of the "Rare, Precious & Beautiful" series, with which they appeared in Europe for the first time in 1968 . From the late 1970s onwards, this material was re-released on countless cheap labels, initially as LP, and later also in CD format.

In 2013 the Australian 3CD box “The Festival Album Collection 1965-67” was released, within which the album - including the original artwork - was re-released for the first time in 48 years.
