Bremen Sculpture Garden

The Citizenship Sculpture Garden is located in Bremen in the Mitte district on the Bremen market square to the right of the Citizenship House . It can be viewed during the opening hours of the Bremen Citizenship .

Although the sculpture garden is directly on the market square, it is a quiet place to linger and look at the expressive figures by Gerhard Marcks . The bronze sculptures were created between 1960 and 1969. Marcks created the five figures Prima Vera (1958, man and woman), Stepping Youth (1960), Stepping Girl (1960), Hit (1963) and Wounded Achilles (1969) in bronze and the Dryad (1969) in stone. In 2005 the sculptures were made available to the public alongside the citizens.

Prima Vera was a German silent film melodrama from 1917 in which a young woman falls in love with a painter named Melchior, whom she sits as a model for an altar portrait. After much hustle and bustle, they both flee to Italy; But one day Melchior lets her sit down.

Achilles or Achilles was an invulnerable hero of the Achaeans in Greek mythology , who was wounded and died after Homer's Iliad in the Trojan War .

Dryads are tree spirits in Greek mythology, nymphs who lived on oak trees (Greek δρῦς (drys) for tree, oak ). They were presented as beautiful females.
