Solhan ( Kurdish : Bongilan ) is a city and a district of the same name in the province of Bingöl in Turkey . The place was called Bongilan until 1932 , then Solhan.

Zaza and Kurmanji are the most common languages ​​in the region.

district

The district is located in the east of the province and covers about 13 percent of the province's area. Solhan borders in the north on Karlıova County , in the west on the central county Bingöl ( Merkez ) and in the southwest on Genç County . Provincial borders exist with the district of Kulp ( Diyarbakır province ) in the south and with the districts of Varto and Muş ( Muş province ) in the east.

The city of Solhan is home to about 53 percent of the county’s population. Another municipality ( Belediye ) in the district is Arakonak with 2,916 inhabitants . The remainder of the district is made up of 27 villages ( Köy ) with an average population of 479 inhabitants, three of which have more than a thousand inhabitants: Hazarşah (1,778), Yiğitharman (1,203) and Yenidal (1,112 inhabitants). All villages together make up 38.5 percent of the provincial population.

history

After the reorganization of the provinces in 1864, the area belonged to the province of Erzurum , and in 1929 it became part of the province of Mus. On June 1, 1932, the district of Solhan was founded and at the end of 1935 came to the newly founded province of Çapakçur (renamed Bingöl in 1950) from parts of the provinces of Elazığ and Erzurum.
