Sona Əhmədli

Sona Yadulla qızı Əhmədli (also Ahmadli ; born October 5, 1988 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler . In 2010 she became European champion in the weight class up to 59 kg.

Career

Sona Əhmədli grew up in Baku and began playing judo there as a teenager . As a junior she achieved greater successes in this sport and in 2004 was Junior Vice European Champion in Rotterdam in the age group U 17. She then reached further international tournaments in this sport and at the Junior European Championships 2005 in Zagreb , where she finished 5th, still some good results.

In 2006 she switched to wrestling. In addition, she became a member of Dinamo Baku . Your trainers are or have been Rafik Hajjiev, Nazim Alichanow and Ari Farmanow since then. The 1.65 meter tall athlete is a sports student and weighs just over 60 kg.

Sona Əhmədli made her debut on the international wrestling mat at the 2007 European Junior Championships in Belgrade , where she finished 5th in the weight class up to 59 kg. At the Junior World Championships in Beijing in 2007, she did not do so well and took 10th place. In the same year it was used in Baku in the women's world championships , but had to pay a lot of money there in the weight class up to 59 kg. She lost to Stephanie Gross from Germany and Brittanee Laverdure from Canada and ended up in 18th place.

In 2008 Sona Əhmədli won her first medal at an international championship. At the European Junior Championships in Košice, she finished second behind Agata Pietrzyk from Poland . At the Junior World Championships this year in Istanbul she was eliminated from Ukraine after a defeat in her second fight against Alla Cherkassova and came in 8th place.

At the European Wrestling Championships in Vilnius in 2009, Sona Əhmədli was "out" after the first round, in which she lost to Anastasija Grigorjeva from Latvia. She only finished 16th in Vilnius.

The greatest success in her career so far was at the 2010 European Championship in Baku, home. She became European champion there with victories over Gudrun Annette Høie from Norway , Meryem Selloum from France and Taybe Yusein from Bulgaria . At the World Cup that year in Moscow , however, she had no success and was eliminated after a defeat by Ayako Shōda from Japan after the first round and only finished in 13th place.

In 2011 she was only used at the World Championships in Istanbul where she was in the weight class up to 59 kg after victories over Olga Kalinina, Kazakhstan , Valeria Scholobova , Russia and Nadezhda Michalkowa , Belarus , a defeat against Hanna Wassylenko , Ukraine and another victory over Amanda Gerhart from Canada took 3rd place and won a bronze medal at the World Championships.

At the 2012 European Championships in Belgrade , she was able to win another bronze medal behind Hanna Wassylenko and Anastasija Grigorjeva, together with Ludmila Cristea from Moldova .
