The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact was presented together with the Xperia Z3 at the IFA in September 2014 in Berlin. Analogous to the Z1 Compact , the smaller device uses almost the same hardware as the larger one, only with a smaller screen and, accordingly, a smaller housing. The Z3 Compact has a 4.6-inch screen that has a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels . The Snapdragon 801 SoC used is the same as in the Z3. The Xperia Z3 Compact was delivered with the Android version 4.4.4 KitKat with Sony UI .
