Soozie Tyrell (born May 4, 1957 in Pisa , Italy ; formerly known as Soozie Kirschner ) is an American violinist, guitarist, singer and composer. She was best known for her longstanding collaboration with rock musician Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band .

Early years

Soozie Tyrell grew up as the daughter of a member of the US Army in Italy and Taiwan . In Taipei she learned to play the piano at the age of seven. When she was ten, she took violin and guitar lessons in Fort Devens , Massachusetts. The family eventually settled in Florida , where Tyrell studied music at the University of South Florida and then moved to New York City , where she was a street musician for many years. She founded the band Trickster together with Springsteen's future wife, the musician Patti Scialfa , and the singer Lisa Lowell , whom she later met frequently when working with Springsteen (including in the Seeger Sessions Band in 2006) .

Collaboration with Bruce Springsteen

Tyrell first appeared on Springsteen's album Lucky Town in 1992 and made many contributions on the following releases and tours. In 2002 her violin playing became an important part of the sound of Springsteen's album The Rising and since then she has regularly accompanied the E Street Band. She also became a key member of Springsteen's Seeger Sessions project in 2005/2006, as she brought the folk musicians to a party at Springsteen's house where the idea of ​​joint recordings was born. In three one-day recording sessions, old American traditionals were recorded live and with acoustic instruments by the 16 musicians in Springsteen's living room , and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions were released on CD and DVD in 2006 . The same band then went on an extensive and very successful world tour.

Solo album

In 2003 Tyrell's album White Lines , which was celebrated by fans and the press alike, was released, on which she not only wrote all the songs and played the violin, but also appeared as lead singer, guitarist and pianist. Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa and members of Bob Dylan's band also appeared on the album. The album is stylistically in the folk / country / singer-songwriter area .
