Sorbas is a Spanish municipality in Andalusia . It has 2388 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and is located at an altitude of about 405  msnm in the province of Almería . The demonym is Sorbeñi (Sorbeño (m), Sorbeña (f)).

history

The justification of the settlement with the name Sorbas is in the dark. It is assumed that the name is derived from the Arabic word for pot and dates the establishment to the time of the Islamic expansion to Iberia from 734 AD. The place is mentioned as Surba in 1089 . In 1488 he was handed over to the Catholic aristocracy without armed forces . The Moors are driven out of the region or convert to Catholicism .
