Sornoer Buden , Žarnojske Budy in Lower Sorbian , is a residential area belonging to the Bahnsdorf district in the municipality of New Zealand in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in the south of Brandenburg . The place belongs to the Altdöbern office .

The Sornoer Buden development is located in Niederlausitz , about seven kilometers east of Großräschen , ten kilometers as the crow flies northeast of Senftenberg and 25 kilometers southwest of Cottbus . The place belongs to the official settlement area of ​​the Sorbs / Wends . Surrounding villages are Bahnsdorf in the north, Lindenfeld in the northeast, Lieske in the southeast and Allmosen in the northwest.

To the east of Sornoer Buden is the Welzow airfield , and to the south of the village is Lake Sedlitz in the former Sedlitz open-cast lignite mine . The settlement is on county road 6615 and just under one kilometer north of federal road 156 . To the west of Sornoer Buden, the Knappenrode – Sornoer Buden railway connects to the Großenhain – Cottbus railway .

The Sornoer Buden settlement, which consists of several scattered plots of land, was built towards the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century as a day laborer settlement and forge . The place name originated from the colloquial term “die Buden” and the location of the place near the village of Wendisch Sorno . The name "Sorno" can be derived from the Sorbian name žarnow for millstone . Until 1952, the Sornoer Buden belonged to the Senftenberg district (until 1950 it was called the Calau district ) and then until the reunification to the Senftenberg district in the GDR district of Cottbus .

In 1959, the Knappenrode – Sornoer Buden railway was connected to the Großenhain – Cottbus railway. On April 25, 1964, the junction Abzw Sornoer Buden Ost – Abzw Sornoer Buden West was put into operation. The route served the freight traffic of the Schwarze Pump gas combine . Since December 6, 1993, the place has been in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . On February 1, 2002, the Bahnsdorf community, to which the Sornoer Buden had always belonged, was merged with three other communities to form the New Zealand community. On May 31, 2002, rail traffic on the connecting piece at Sornoer Buden was stopped.
