Hoshin Engi ( Japanese 封神演義 , Hōshin Engi ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Ryū Fujisaki , which was also implemented as an anime series. It is loosely based on the Chinese novel of the Ming Dynasty Fengshen Yanyi , with hōshin engi being the Japanese reading of the Chinese title.

action

The story takes place 3000 years ago in China in a world of Sennin (god-like sorcerers, from Chinese xianren ), Doshi (students of the Sennin) and mortals. Taikobo (Chinese: Taigong Wang ) is supposed to seal 365 Sendo (evil sorcerers) in the Hoshin in order to complete his training as a Sennin , including Dakki (Chinese: Daji ), which is the root of all evil in the realm of the Yin Dynasty . She has bewitched Emperor Chu (Chinese Zhou ) so that he no longer has a will of his own. So Dakki got the power over the country and lives out her cruelty and her desire for luxury. The people of the country and the residents of the neighboring countries whom she ambushed and executed for their entertainment suffer from her.

So Taikobo sets out with his Reji ( flying being ) Supushan to capture the souls and defeat Dakki. His power, like that of other wizards, is determined by his paopei, a magical object that gives him special abilities. With his paopei "slayer of gods" Taikobo can influence the magic of other wizards. So he succeeds first in defeating one of the subordinates of Dakki and sealing his soul. He can also defeat Dakki's big sister in battle and tries to move in with her as a hostage in the emperor's palace as a musician. Dakki lets him go first to protect her sister. But she can finally bring Supushan under her spell and so defeat Taikobo. He only escapes death with the help of the Supreme General, who is also suffering from Dakki's rule. The mighty Sennin Shinkohyo, who was previously at Dakki's side, saves Taikobo even Supushan.

Now Taikobo wants to look for allies before he faces Dakki again. On his journey he meets Nataku, who was born a paopei and artificial human. His father cast him out and after his death destroyed his grave. Now after his rebirth by the Sennin Taiitsu, Nataku wants to kill his father. Taikobo can resolve the conflict with his skills in dealing with other people and make it clear to Nataku that he loves his parents. Taiitsu then takes him into the world of the Sennin for training so that Nataku can fight with Taikobo in the future. After another journey, Taibobo meets the Doshi Yozen, who can transform himself as desired and is famous for his magic arts. He was sent by Taikobo's master to help him. But first, Yozen gives him three tasks that Taikobo can solve. The surprised Yozen retires after his defeat for further training, but wants to help Taikobo in the future.
