Soziedad Alcoholika is a Spanish crossover band from Vitoria-Gasteiz , which was founded in 1988 under the name Amonal .

history

The band was founded in 1988 under the name Amonal. Under the name Soziedad Alcoholika, the group released a first demo called Intoxikazión Etílika in 1990 , which sold over 1,500 times. The demo was followed by a self-titled debut album in 1991 and an EP in 1992 . A year later the group went on a tour with performances in Germany , Italy , Switzerland , the Netherlands and France . In the same year the band also played together with Sodom , Risk , Coroner , Accu§er , Deathrow and Poltergeist in Spain. In addition, the next album Y Ese Que Tanto Habla Esta Totalmente Hueco Ya Sabeis Que El Cantaro Vacio Es El Que Mas Suena was released. In 1995 the group founded their own label called Mil a Gritos, which released the album Ratas that same year . Two more albums were released on this label in 1996 and 1997 with Diversiones… and No Intente Hacer Esto En Su Casa . Towards the end of 1998 three appearances were recorded, resulting in the album Directo , which was released in 1999. The next studio album followed in 2000 under the name Polvo en Los Ojos . In 2003, the album Tiempos oscuros followed through Locomotive Records . In 2008 the band signed a contract with Roadrunner Records , which released the albums Mala Sangre and Sesion # 2 . These took 13th and 79th place in the Spanish album charts. During this time, the band also continued to perform, including playing at the Sonisphere Festival in 2009 . At the end of November 2011 the album Cadenas De Odio was released , which was recorded with producer Tude Madsen at Music Lan Studios and mixed at Antfarm Studios in Aarhus . The album rose to 51st place on the album charts. Then it went on tour through Spain and a few countries in South America . During their career, the band has performed in Spain and other parts of Europe as well as in America and Japan .

style

Dirk Gomez from Ox-Fanzine assigned the group to punk and hardcore punk. They started out as a fun punk band, got faster and approached metallically aggressive hardcore punk. In addition, she also incorporated other styles such as reggae and salsa . In an interview with Gomez, Juan Aceña stated that the band was initially influenced by groups like Cicatriz , La Polla Records , GBH and Slayer . Influences like delinquent habits were added later . Although the band comes from the Basque Country , the lyrics are in Spanish and not Basque , as Aceña's parents never taught him. Christian Kruse from Metal Hammer noted in his review of Mala sangre in 2008 that the eight different albums so far have sold a total of over 350,000 units, making the group one of the most successful hardcore punk bands. The Spanish texts remind him of Brujeria and Sepultura , whose mother tongue is Portuguese . Stylistically, on the other hand, it is aggressive, somewhat metallic old-school hardcore, with melodies that would remind you of Sick of It All several times . Markus Jakob from metalnews.de described the music on the album as a mixture of hardcore punk and thrash metal, comparable to agnostic front . In this respect, Soziedad Alcoholika is not in competition with a group such as Nueva Ética .
