history

On May 20, 1833, the Emdens magistrate founded a savings and loan bank. The first address was "Am Brauersgraben". In 1836 the bank was relocated to a larger building at Burgstrasse 20, and in October 1874 the Sparkasse moved into its new domicile in Kirchstrasse. In 1927 she finally moved into the building of the former East Frisian Girozentrale on Ratsdelft , her current address.

After the Second World War, the savings deposits increased tenfold between 1948 and 1955. With the increase in business volume, the flat building of the Stadtsparkasse proved to be too small. In 1954 the necessary expansion took place, which was completed on March 22, 1955. The Stadtsparkasse set up branches in all parts of the city of Emden in order to increase its presence. In 1959 the savings bank branches opened in Borssum , Larrelt and Barenburg . The following year the branches in Herrentorviertel and Wolthusen followed . In 1961/62 the savings banks opened in Conrebbersweg and Cirksenastraße. Harsweg marked the end of the establishment of branches in the city in 1967. When the city area expanded with the municipal reform of 1972 , the Stadtsparkasse opened additional branches in Petkum and Wybelsum .

In 1968, the third stage of expansion of the Sparkasse headquarters on Delft followed. The newly designed and expanded main office opened on May 5, 1969. During the 1980s, the Sparkasse head office was further expanded by adding the securities and other departments. In the 1990s, the Sparkasse was detached from the administrative sovereignty of the city of Emden. The Sparkasse Emden was formed as an independent public-law institution. In May 2012, the Sparkasse Emden is represented in and around the city with eight branches and six self-service centers.

Emder Sparkassenstiftung

On June 1, 1998 (on the 165th anniversary of the Städtische Sparkasse Emden), the Emder Sparkasse Foundation was founded. The foundation bodies are the board of directors, which consists of the board of directors of the Sparkasse, and the foundation board, which is made up of the chairman and four other members. With the proceeds of the share capital, social, welfare, cultural and international understanding issues have been and are being promoted since then. The foundation capital has been gradually increased in the following years. Every year, distributions are made to Emden associations and institutions in accordance with the statutes.

meeting point

In March 2001, the Sparkasse opened a real estate service center under the name “Treffpunkt” at Grosse Strasse 10-12. In this center, the real estate department of Sparkasse Emden is now combined as a so-called “meeting point for real estate”, Emder Bau- und Boden (EBB), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sparkasse, and the customer center of Stadtwerke Emden as “meeting point for energy and more”.
