Spartaco Landini (born January 31, 1944 in Terranuova Bracciolini , Tuscany , † April 16, 2017 in Genoa , Liguria ) was an Italian football player , coach and manager . At club level, especially with Inter Milan and in Napoli successful, he took the national team of his home country and at the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England in part.

Career

Club career

Spartaco Landini was born on January 31, 1944 in the Tuscan town of Terranuova Bracciolini and began playing football at AC Sangiovannese in nearby San Giovanni Valdarno . In the youth of Sangiovannese, Landini was discovered by talent scouts from Inter Milan and in 1962 he was signed by the noble club from Lombardy . As a result, the defender played from 1962 to 1970 for Inter Milan and made 94 league games during this time, in which he scored a goal. However, Landini never made the leap to permanent regulars. In his first season with Inter Milan he won the Italian football championship. The so-called Grande Inter under coach Helenio Herrera ended the Serie A 1962/63 as the first with four points ahead of the first rival Juventus Turin . It was the beginning of a hugely successful phase for Inter Milan. As the Italian champion from 1963 you were eligible to start in the European Cup of National Champions 1963/64 , where you moved into the final after successes over AS Monaco , Partizan Belgrade and Borussia Dortmund . There, the team met players like Luis Suárez , Sandro Mazzola and Armando Picchi on Real Madrid . In the Prater Stadium of Vienna won Internazionale 3: 1 and won the first international title of the club's history. However, Spartaco Landini was not used in the final. The following year, this title could be defended after the finals Benfica of Portugal with 1: 0 was defeated. Landini was again not used in the final. Following both European Cup victories , the World Cup also succeeded , although Landini was not used either.

In the following years Spartaco Landini was not a regular at Inter Milan either. In the championship season 1964/65 he came to just two missions, at the end of the season Inter was three points ahead of AC Milan in first place in the table. In the 1965/66 season , Inter Milan were Italian champions, Spartaco Landini was used eleven times. Total Landini played until 1970 with Inter Milan before he first joined the club and the SSC Palermo in Serie B joined. For Palermo, Landini acted for three years from 1970 to 1973 in 97 league games, in which he failed to score. After a mixed first season, third in Serie B in 1971/72, behind Ternana Calcio and Lazio Rome, was promoted to Serie A, where they could not hold on to fifteenth in the following year.

Spartaco Landini then joined SSC Napoli , where he was again under contract for three years, but made only 26 league games during this time. In Serie A 1974/75 , SSC Napoli scored the Italian runner-up with Landini in defense, only behind Juventus Turin, after finishing third the year before. In the 1975/76 Coppa Italia , coach Alberto Delfrati's team moved into the final and defeated Hellas Verona 4-0. Spartaco Landini was also not used in this final.

Landini let a career end from 1976 with his hometown club AC Sangiovannese, where he made 69 league games again in two years and finally ended his career as a football player in 1978 at the age of 34.

National team

In 1966 Spartaco Landini made a total of four international matches for the Italian national soccer team . He was appointed to the Italian squad for the 1966 World Cup in England by national coach Edmondo Fabbri . At the tournament, Landini was used in a game of his team. While he was not used in the first two group games against Chile (2-0) and the Soviet Union (0-1), Landini played the full distance in the last group game against North Korea . By conceding a goal from Pak Doo-ik, Italy lost 1-0 and were eliminated from the tournament.
