history
The association was founded on August 28, 1918 under the name Bulgarski Sokol Warna . On January 30, 1924, the club merged with Schipka Warna , the newly formed club was named Schipenski Sokol Warna . After the club had become Bulgarian runner-up in 1931, they won the title a year later.
On October 18, 1945, the club merged with local rivals Levski Varna and Rakowski Varna . The newly formed association was named Spartak Varna . The city of Varna was renamed in honor of Stalin , and the club was named Spartak Stalin in 1949 . In 1956 it was given its original name again. In 1961, Spartak reached the final of the Bulgarian Cup, but had to admit defeat to CSKA Sofia 3-0.
1969 Lokomotiw Varna was incorporated, the ZSK Spartak Varna was created. In 1983 the club again reached the final of the national cup against CSKA Sofia. With 0: 4 the defeat was even more pronounced this time. Three years later it was renamed again, and the club has had its current name ever since.
For many years Spartak played first class in the A group before relegating to the B group as bottom of the table after the 1993/94 season. As a second division champion, however, he was immediately promoted again and even qualified for the UI Cup in the following season as sixth in the table . In 1999 Spartak was in danger of relegation, but in the end had two points ahead of the relegation places. Otherwise, the club occupied places in the safe midfield. In 2004 it was tight again, with a win against Rodopa Smoljan on the last day of the game, Spartak secured themselves and had three points ahead of relegated Botew Plovdiv .
In the 2004/05 season, however, Spartak could no longer save, beaten as bottom of the table were missing 15 points at the end of relegation. However, the club only made a stopover in the B Grupa for one year and rose again as a sovereign champion.
In 2008, the president of the club, Ivan Slavkov, was arrested for coercion into prostitution, money laundering , human and drug trafficking .
Since May 2010 the club has been called FK Spartak 1918 .
