Spencer Papa (born October 22, 1995 in Newport Beach , California ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Junior tour and college tennis

Spencer Papa achieved his best result in the junior world rankings in January 2013 with 15th place on the junior tour . In 2013 he was in the final of the USTA International Spring Championships, a Grade 1 tournament, together with Alexander Zverev .

Papa has been studying at the University of Oklahoma since 2014 . He plays college tennis for the local sports team, the Oklahoma Sooners . In 2015 he and his team won the Big 12 Men's Tennis Championships , an annual team competition held by the universities that are part of the Big 12 Conference .

Professional tour

At the end of 2010, Papa played his first tournaments on the ITF Future Tour . There he made the leap into the final, however, that he lost. On the ATP Challenger Tour , he has always failed in qualifying.

He made his Grand Slam debut in 2017 in doubles at the US Open . With his win in doubles at the NCAA Tennis Championships , he received a wildcard and started in doubles with William Blumberg . In the first round they met the top seeded doubles Henri Kontinen and John Peers , to whom they lost 3: 6, 3: 6 in two sets.
