Spiders is a Swedish hard rock band from Gothenburg . The band is signed to Spinefarm Records and has released three albums to date.

history

The band was formed in 2010 when former witchcraft and troubled horse guitarist John Hoyles moved from Örebro to Gothenburg and made music with Graveyard drummer Axel Sjöberg. John Hoyle's wife Ann-Sofie later joined as a singer. The band was completed by the bassist Matteo Gambacorta. A short time later the band played their first concert at the Way Out West Festival . In January 2011 the self-titled EP , produced by Don Ahlsterberg, was released , some of which were regularly played by the Swedish radio station P3 . In the US , the four songs were released two months later on two separate 7 ″ singles .

Since Sjöberg was very busy with Graveyard, he left Spiders and was replaced by Ricard Harryson. With him, the band recorded another 7 "single with Fraction . A year later, Spiders recorded their debut album Flash Point with Per Stålberg , which was released in October 2012 and reached number 52 on the Swedish album charts . The band played a European tour in support of Graveyard and was nominated for the “P3 Guld”, the Swedish radio award, in the “Best Rock / Metal of the Year” category. However, the award went to the band Graveyard. In 2013 Spiders played at the Sweden Rock Festival and Scandinavia , Spain and Portugal before Matteo Gambacorta left the band and was replaced by Olle Griphammar.

A year later, the band recorded their second studio album Shake Electric with producer Mattias Glavå . This was followed by a tour through Scandinavia in the support program of Kvelertak and a European tour with Blood Ceremony . The single Mad Dog was released in advance , before Spiders was signed by Spinefarm Records. The album was released on November 5, 2014 and entered the Swedish album charts at number five. Again the band was nominated for the "P3 Guld" award, but lost to Crucified Barbara . In addition, the album was nominated for the Swedish Grammis music award in the hard rock category. However, the award went to the band At the Gates .

In autumn 2015 followed a European tour in support of Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and Avatarium . At the same time Spiders released the EP Why Don't You , which contains a cover version of the Abba song Watch Out . In early 2016, the band gave their first concerts in North America, where the Spiders played in support of Graveyard. On April 6, 2018, the third studio album Killer Machine was released. The album debuted at number 17 on the Swedish album charts. In addition, the album was number one on the Swedish vinyl charts, making it the best-selling album in LP format .

style

Spiders play rock music inspired by hard rock in the 1970s. Sometimes their style is also referred to as garage punk . In addition to classic rock instruments such as guitar, bass and drums, the band also uses the harmonica . Guitarist John Hoyles called Spiders' music classic rock . Ann-Sofie Hoyles named the band Dead Moon as an early influence alongside punk rock . From the media side, the music of Spiders is compared with bands like Jefferson Airplane , Motörhead , Girlschool or MC5 .
