The LCK 1 to 7 were meter gauge tank locomotives of the Lübben-Cottbusser Kreisbahnen (LCK). At the Deutsche Reichsbahn they were given the numbers 99 5701 to 99 5707.

history

In 1897 the Lokomotivfabrik Hohenzollern AG for Lokomotivbau in Düsseldorf delivered five locomotives with the serial numbers 938 to 942 to the Lübben-Cottbusser Kreisbahnen , this line operated under the name Spreewaldbahn AG from 1924 . One copy each was delivered in 1899 and 1903 (make no. 1211 and 1212).

Originally, the locomotives only had names of places on the route ( Lieberose , Straupitz , Lübben , Burg , Cottbus , Goyatz , Werben ), but there are various details about the exact introduction of the company numbers.

In 1940, the Brandenburg State Transport Authority probably assigned uniform numbers to the locomotives of the railways under it, these locomotives were classified as 09-20 to 09-26. When they were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn on April 1, 1949, they were given the numbers 99 5701 to 99 5707. With the exception of 99 5702, which was retired in 1967, all locomotives remained in use until the Spreewaldbahn was shut down.

The locomotive 99 5703 of the Spreewaldbahn and a combined passenger / baggage car from the original equipment of the Spreewaldbahn are preserved in a museum and have been exhibited together with many other items of the Spreewaldbahn in the Spreewald Museum in the castle park of Lübbenau / Spreewald since April 19, 1975 . After the hall was demolished, a new building was erected on the Topfmarkt, where the vehicles have been on view since 2012.

technical features

The locomotives had an Allan control, the drive was on the third axle. The internal frame was designed as a water tank, the coal boxes were attached to the side of the boiler in front of the driver's cab. The locomotives had a throw lever brake and a cable reel for the lever brake , which was used as a train brake. At times, at least some locomotives had large chimneys to reduce flying sparks, which should have been dismantled by the middle of the 20th century.

At times, from the 1930s to the 1950s, the front coupling rod was removed due to insufficient maintenance to prevent damage, so that the front axle only served as a running axle and the locomotives were on the road as 1B. Only the 99 5705 remained in this condition, the others received this rod again, but it was removed again towards the end of the operating time on the 99 5703.

In 1951, all locomotives received electrical lighting, which replaced the acetylene lanterns that had previously been used . In 1952/53 the Spreewaldbahn was converted to a Knorr-type compressed air brake , and the lever brake disappeared. The large main air tank required for this was attached to the right of the boiler, the air pump to the left of the smoke chamber, neither of which was exactly an improvement.

More locomotives

An identical locomotive is the E 41 in the inventory of the Museu Ferroviário de Chaves in Chaves , Portugal. It was built in 1902 and then delivered to Portugal, where it was used on various railways.
