Saint Germanus of Paris

On the northern flank of the choir rises the bell tower covered with a pyramid roof, the top floor of which is pierced on all four sides by round-arched twin arcades. Like the west facade, it is supported by massive buttresses.

A vestibule is built onto the west facade. A three-lane tracery window is cut above the portal , which is partially covered by the porch.

The renaissance portal is covered by a basket arch, in its gable is a colored carved figure of St. Germanus from the 15th or 16th century. The right forearm and left hand are missing.

The nave has three aisles and is divided into five bays . Wide, pointed arcades open the main nave to the two side aisles.

The choir is currently closed. It was originally lit by two windows that are now walled up. The rose window was renewed in 1957.

Furnishing

  • The sculpture of the Madonna and Child is dated to the 14th century. Presumably it was originally a representation of Maria lactans , a breastfeeding mother of God. When one tried to ban indecent representations, the figure was changed. Instead of reaching for Mary's breast, the baby Jesus reaches for a bird.
  • The oval baptismal font is decorated with a clover leaf.

sarcophagus

A sarcophagus from Merovingian times is kept in the church . It was discovered in 1954 and is dated to the 7th century.
