Unlike Kühns earlier churches , because of their size urban stood out, his buildings are oriented after 1933 in its architecture to the medieval standing tradition village churches . The design of St. Johannes Evangelist corresponds to the rural surroundings and suburban structure of Buchholz. The exposed brickwork , a hall church on a rectangular floor plan , has a deep saddle roof . In the area of the choir there are small additions on both sides for side rooms and the sacristy , which are covered by the roof of the nave . The gable roof above the choir is designed as a crooked hip. Inspired by the architecture of the village churches, the church tower was placed in front of the facade like a risalit . Its wood-paneled bell storey is crowned by a slightly dented pyramid roof. The archivolts of the arched windows and the portal are fluted. The wooden ceiling of the interior is designed like a flattened mansard roof with visible rafters . The wall to the strongly recessed choir is open in an ogival arch . On the altar wall a hanging crucifix from Oberammergau from 1936. Over the side altars feature pointed arch reliefs of sandstone , a Schutzmantelmadonna and a Man of Sorrows represent, in 1958 created by Tramnitz-Beckmann. The wooden sculpture by Johannes von Weiser from 1938 depicts the patron saint of the church, the Evangelist Johannes .
