The old church in Ahlen is one of the oldest baptismal churches in the Münsterland . It was founded in the 9th century on the later episcopal court and in 1139 incorporated into the Premonstratensian monastery of Cappenberg . The existing building is a late Gothic hall church with four bays and a short choir bay , which was built at the end of the 15th century. Remains of a transept in the south wall are likely to have been preserved from the previous Romanesque building. Inside there are unadorned pillars and foliage capitals on the wall services . The windows are in three parts and have fish bubble tracery. In the north is the sacristy . The west tower collapsed and was rebuilt from 1815 to 1819 with a baroque hood.
