St. Cäcilia (Oberkassel)
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Cäcilia in the Oberkassel district of Bonn is of medieval origin. It stands including the rectory , the former cemetery and two stone paths crosses as monument under monument protection .
history
The church, dedicated to St. Cäcilia , was first mentioned in 1144 as incorporated into Vilich Abbey. The oldest part of the parish church is the four-storey Romanesque bell tower made of quarry stone , which was built around 1200 as a choir tower with an apse .
From 1863 to 1865 the nave was built east of the tower and when the choir tower was included, its apse was demolished (design: August Dieckhoff ). When the railway on the right bank of the Rhine was built directly below the church, the old church to the west had to be demolished. Due to the increase in the Catholic population and to reconstruct the originally cruciform floor plan of the church, the side aisles were added in 1910. The large sacristy was added in 1955.
Furnishing
Church window
The stained glass windows of the choir were created by Joseph Machhausen in 1884/86 . Other stained glass windows were made at the beginning of the 20th century, the donors are mostly named under the motif. In recent years all windows have been cleaned so that they shine again in their original luminosity.
organ
From 1863 to 1865 a small organ from the Kalscheuer company with 15 registers was installed. In 1912 this organ was replaced by a larger one from the Klais company in Bonn.
The Kreienbrink company from Osnabrück delivered a new organ for 115,000 German marks, which was consecrated on September 23, 1973. The instrument has 23 sounding registers on two manual works and a pedal.

Bells
Five bells hang in the Romanesque tower . The three smaller bells form the old part of the peal. The largest of these is a cast by Christian Clarens from a previous bell that was cast by Georg Claren in 1826. This bell itself was also a casting of an even older bell, which was called the ban bell ; she had jumped from a lightning strike. The two smallest bells from the 15th century, Cäcilia and Johannes, are among the oldest preserved bells in the Bonn region . In 1948 the Bochumer Verein cast two cast steel bells in the so-called V-12 rib, which, however, had to be hung on deep cranked yokes due to their sheer size. To ring the angelus (among other things at 6 p.m.), the sequence of 3 × 3 beats sounds on the large Christ the King bell , the small St. John's bell rings for a few minutes. The bells 5 + 4 ring on weekdays, 5 + 4 + 3 on Sundays and all five bells on high feasts. The great Christ the King bell rings alone at exequies . The bell always starts a quarter of an hour before the service begins.
