St. Dionysius (Prussian Oldendorf)
The Church of St. Dionysius in Preußisch Oldendorf is the parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Preußisch Oldendorf. It belongs to the Lübbecke parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .
The current church building was built in the 16th century and expanded several times in the following centuries.
history
A church in Oldendorf was first mentioned in a document in 969. It was founded at the time of Christianization by the Franks , making it the oldest church in today's town of Preußisch Oldendorf.
Building history
Nothing is known about the history of the previous buildings. Today's church was built in 1510 in the late Gothic style, initially as a two-aisled , three-bay hall church with an east choir with a 5/8 end , west tower and a two-storey sacristy on the north side of the choir. The main nave and the significantly narrower north nave resulted in an asymmetrical floor plan. There is a star vault in the main nave and choir .
The extension on the north side of the tower dates from the Renaissance . After 1871 the tower was raised. In 1905/1906 a third, larger nave was added to the south because the church had become too small for the growing community.
The windows dating from the Middle Ages and the sound openings on the tower are ogival and partly equipped with tracery .
In December 2019, the attached baptismal sacristy threatened to collapse and was secured in an emergency. In January 2020, the redesign work began on the church square, which, after renovation in the 1980s, now has handicapped-accessible paths and barrier-free access to the church.
Furnishing
The reliefs inserted in a neo-Gothic altarpiece originally belonged to a Gothic carved altar, which was created in 1520, probably by Hinrick Stavoer. From this altar comes a 74 cm high figure of St. Dionysius , whose patronage the church bears. The stone sacrament house is also Gothic .
The organ gallery and prospect (1662) as well as the carved baptismal font (around 1660) and a chandelier (1734) are baroque .
organ
The organ was built in 1972 by the organ building company Alfred Führer (Wilhelmshaven) in the existing historical organ case from 1665. The instrument has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal . The disposition is based on that of the previous instrument from 1665, which was built by the organ builder Antonius Bischof (Offelten bei Pr. Oldendorf). The playing and stop actions are mechanical. In 2018, the Bischof-Führer organ in the St. Dionysius Church was completely renovated by master organ builder Harm Dieder Kirschner from Weener-Stapelmoor, after organ damage and various other damage to the organ caused severe problems.
