St. George

The Evangelical Lutheran , listed church of St. Georg is in Kühdorf , a municipality in the Greiz district in Thuringia . The parish Kühdorf belongs to the parish Tschirma in the church district Greiz of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church in Kühdorf has only been a branch church of the Tschirma parish since the beginning of the 20th century. Until then it was the smallest and poorest parish in Greizer Land. In 1817 the Tschirma pastor tried in vain to abolish the Kühdorf parish and assign it to one of the neighboring parishes. Almost a hundred years passed before this dwarf parish was incorporated into the Tschirma parish association. Instead of the dilapidated late medieval church, a new one was built in 1716. It was repaired in 1912 and 1965/66.

description

A mighty eight-sided roof turret rises in the middle on the slate-covered hipped roof of the hall church . It consists of a slate-covered octagonal floor with a curved hood , a lantern as an attachment, a smaller curved hood and a pointed helmet . The tower has no vertical support in the nave , rather it is artfully integrated into the roof structure . The interior of the nave and the unseparated choir with a three-sided closure in the east is spanned by a coffered ceiling. As a wooden wall, the pulpit altar closes the nave to the east. The pulpit protrudes between two Ionic columns in front of the wall, crowned by the sound cover supported by pilasters and framed by openwork carvings. On each side of the altar, the wooden wall is broken through by a small door. There are galleries in the nave . The church furnishings are from the construction time. A carved baptismal font from 1954 is stylistically based on Expressionism . Like a sculpture carved in 1963, it comes from Elly-Viola Nahmmacher . The organ with 10 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1896 by Richard Kreutzbach .
