St. Jakob is the parish church of the Freising district of Vötting . The parish also includes the St. Ulrich in Hohenbachern branch church and some smaller chapels.

The monastery church of the Weihenstephan Monastery originally served as the parish church of the parish. In 1158 the parish received its own small church on the western slope of the Weihenstephaner mountain. The Apostle James the Elder was chosen as the patron saint of the Church . With the abolition of Weihenstephan Monastery in the course of secularization in 1803, the monastery church was again designated as a parish church. The Church of St. Jacob was closed in October 1803 and then demolished. Since the monastery church was also torn down in 1811 or 1812, the parish only had the church in the smaller neighboring town of Hohenbachern. It was planned to dissolve the parish and incorporate the parish of St. Georg in Freising. Due to the resistance of the parish vicarie and the ordinariate , this was not implemented.

In 1851 King Maximilian II Joseph ordered a reorganization of the parish with the new name Weihenstephan-Vötting and the construction of a new church and parsonage. The state bore the costs of construction. In 1854 work began on a piece of land north of the town center. The main architects involved were Franz Xaver Beyschlag and Karl Klumpp the Elder. J. (both employees of Friedrich von Gärtner ). The church was consecrated in June 1857 by Bishop Gregor von Scherr . For reasons of cost, no painting was done when the church was built. This was given to the building on the 50th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone in 1904. With the incorporation of Vötting into Freising, the name of the parish changed. Since 1937 it has been called the parish of St. Jakob Freising .
