The Benediktuskirche is a Catholic church on the Domberg in Freising . The church is located east of the cathedral and can be reached through the cloister that leads through the rear part of the Benedictine church. The church is only separated from the cloister by iron bars (from 1716).

Even Otto of Freising mentioned the church in his Chronicles (V, 24), therefore it is of bishop Korbinian been built, which called there a monastic community to life.

Probably around 825 with the introduction of the Regula Benedicti at the cathedral monastery Freising, the first church was built. However, it is unclear whether this was already on the site of today's church. From the 12th century the church was venerated as the place of the burial of the first Freising Bishop Korbinian .

The construction of today's church was initiated in 1347 by Provost Otto von Maxlrain. At that time no bishop could hold out for long because of disputes between Louis the Bavarian and the papal curia in Avignon . During the late 14th and early 15th centuries, the church received a complete set of stained glass furnishings and this remained until the 18th century. Of these windows, each of which was donated by a canon , only the main window in the eastern window opening of the choir still exists today . The Gothic church received baroque stucco work by Nikolaus Liechtenfurtner in 1716 .

The former high altar sheet from 1665, "Expulsion of the Merchants from the Temple" by Christopher Paudiß , is now in the Diocesan Museum. In the north aisle painting “Beheading Johannes dT” by Andreas Wolff .

After the monks of the cathedral monastery, the secular priests of the Freising cathedral chapter were buried in the church and the cloister .
