Filial church St. Ulrich

The St. Ulrich branch church is the church of the Freising district of Hohenbachern . It belongs to the parish of St. Jakob in Vötting . According to the chronicle of Karl Meichelbeck, the first church in Hohenbachern was consecrated in 759 by Bishop Joseph von Verona . A church was also mentioned in later years. 826 speaks of a "basilica ad Pacharom", 1305 of "Hohenpacharn", 1449 of "Großpachern". From 1157 the church was subordinate to the nearby Weihenstephan Monastery .

Today's church building in the Romanesque core (the chancel) dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1630 a sacristy and an onion dome were added. At the beginning of the 18th century the church received a new nave . After the church of St. Jakob in Vötting was demolished in the course of secularization in Bavaria in 1803, the Weihenstephan monastery church initially served as the parish church of the community. However, after this was also canceled a few years later, the church in Hohenbachern became the center of the community. Only after the new St. Jacob's Church in Vötting was consecrated in 1857 and made a parish church did this section end. On July 2, 1826, a major fire devastated parts of the village. The church tower dome, which was destroyed in the process, was replaced by a new copper pointed dome. During a renovation in 1906, the nave was lengthened and an organ gallery was built in at the same time .

The theologian Johannes Gründel , who has lived in the Hohenbachern rectory since 1972 , looked after the parish on a voluntary basis until his death in 2015.
