St. Jakobus in Neuenmuhr; the stork's nest is recognizable on the church tower roof

St. Jakob maior and St. Georg is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Neuenmuhr , a part of today's municipality of Muhr am See in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The church belongs to the parish of Neuenmuhr in the Evangelical Lutheran deanery in Gunzenhausen . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-114-7 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list. Its underground components are also registered as a ground monument (number D-5-6830-0198). The postal address is Freiherr-von-Lentersheim-Straße 2.

The church building was built from 1618 to 1622 by Joachim Christoph von Lentersheim as a branch church of the older parish church of St. John the Baptist in Altenmuhr . The consecration took place on July 25, 1622. Besides the castle, it was the only building to survive the arson in 1632 that accompanied the Thirty Years' War . However, the bells were stolen and only replaced by three new ones in 1726 thanks to a donation from Gustav von Lentersheim. A fourth bell from 1936 was melted down for war purposes and could only be added in 1972. The building was last renovated between 1964 and 1966. There has been a striking stork's nest on the west gable of the church tower since 1946 . In monuments in Bavaria by Gotthard Kießling (see literature) the church is incorrectly referred to as " late medieval ".

The choir tower church has a steeple with stepped gable ends and a saddle roof from 1831. Before 1831 the tower had a Welsche dome . The churchyard wall was built in the middle of the 19th century. The original pulpit dates from 1620/1622. There are fragments of old frescoes . A genealogical table of the Lentersheimers comes from 1634 . The altar is from 1911 and is crowned by a baroque crucifix .
