history

Machtilshausen was a branch of the parish of Langendorf until 1863 and also had to contribute to the construction costs of the church there.

The foundation of an own early measurement deficit by the bailiff Conrad von Steinau auf der Trimburg and his brother Heinrich in 1427 suggests that there was already a chapel in the village at that time.

In 1502, the first stone church was built under Prince-Bishop Lorenz von Bibra , the choir and steeple of which are part of today's St. Jakobus Church . In 1541 the second largest bell still in existence today was cast. A cemetery was built around the church, which was relocated to the Machtilshausen Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle in 1840 .

In 1909 the church was renovated. As a result of this renovation, the Holy Cross Chapel lost its importance in favor of the St. James Church . The current nave of St. James' Church was built around 1920/1930.

During the Second World War , two of the three bells in the church were melted down. Therefore, in 1925, the bell was rearranged. On Assumption Day in 1944, the third bell and the tower clock fell victim to a major fire in the municipality of Machtilshausen when the fire spread to the church tower. The church tower was rebuilt in 1948 and a church bell was added in 1950 and 1953. Founders were Grüninger and sons in Villingen and Neu-Ulm and Karl Czudnochowsky in Erding . The biggest bell is the newest.

Description and equipment

The nave has four window axes. The windows are ogival . The eastern choir in the basement of the church tower has a reticulated vault. The church tower is designed like a Julius Echter tower , even if it is a recent reconstruction.

The high altar with the central representation of Our Lady has two rotated columns and side passages. The side altars with central figures of the Mother of God and a male saint, on the other hand, have round columns. There are pictures of the four evangelists on the pulpit . These furnishings cannot be dated precisely. The Way of the Cross created by Prof. Spiegel and the cross in front of the choir were created in 1922.
