St. Johann Baptist is a Roman Catholic parish church in Niedermerz , municipality of Aldenhoven in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and entered under number 18 in the list of architectural monuments in Aldenhoven .

history

There was a small church in Niedermerz as early as the 12th century. From this the Romanesque bell tower is still preserved, which is located in the east as a choir tower . The nave dates from the 18th century and was built as a simple, baroque hall building. The choir , which is located in the choir tower, was restored in 1865.

Building description

St. Johannes Baptist is a baroque hall church in two bays with a Romanesque choir tower from the 12th century. The interior is spanned by ribbed vaults.

Furnishing

In the church there is a neo-Romanesque high altar with two associated side altars, a confessional , communion bench , pulpit and benches. The windows are works by the artist Maria Katzgrau from 1952.
