St. Johann Baptist (Johanniskirchen)

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Johann Baptist is a late Gothic hall church in Johanniskirchen in the Lower Bavarian district of Rottal-Inn . It belongs to the parish association of St. John the Baptist Johanniskirchen in the Diocese of Passau .

history

The church in Johanniskirchen was built around 1490–1500 with the inclusion of an older west tower , which, according to the jewelry forms, probably dates from the 14th century. The year 1492 is painted on the inside at the end of the choir. Restorations took place inside in 1966 and on the outside in 1983.

architecture

Exterior

The exterior of the church is characterized by the continuous gable roof and the buttresses on the whole building. The lower floors of the tower are structured by panels with pointed arch friezes and a German ribbon . The upper part of the tower is late Gothic and is closed by a pointed helmet over hip gables . The vestibule for the south portal is provided with a star rib vault, which was painted according to the year 1625. A rustic stone relief of the crucifixion from the early Gothic period is attached above the inner portal.

Interior

The interior is a unitary space of balanced proportions, which is characterized by the almost barrel-shaped vault with a uniform ribbed network pattern. The choir , which consists of two bays , is closed off by a flattened three-sided end, which visually brings the space closer to the four-bay nave.

In the choir, flat shield arches with semicircular services take up the vault ribs in the nave . The arched pillars end conspicuously at a third of the wall height. The consoles show that this reduced height on the choir side walls and in the east corners of the ship is original, while the other wall templates in the western part of the ship may have been removed. The short service pieces resting on round profile consoles to hold the ribs , however, are certainly original.

During the restoration in 1966, the color of the vault ribs and services were refreshed and supplemented. The rib network of the choir is accompanied by tufts of tendrils, the choir arch and the services of the wall templates in the nave are accompanied by tendril spirals.

The equipment is modern. On the high altar there are late baroque figures of the crucified as well as John the Baptist and John the Evangelist . The organ is a work by Orgelbau Eisenbarth from 1952 with 17 stops on two manuals and pedal .
