The Church of St. John the Baptist

The Catholic village church of St. John the Baptist is in the community of Freienhagen in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The church tower and nave were built between 1777 and 1779 . On October 28, 1779, the auxiliary bishop Johann Georg Joseph von Eichart from Erfurt inaugurated the church . No information is given about a previous church.

Construction work

The masonry was built from unplastered rubble stones . The retracted west tower was built into the three-axis hall building . The facade of the hipped roof house is designed by arched windows and a profiled eaves .

In 1904 the sacristy was added .

In the ship, the windows are spanned by a barrel vault with deep soffits . There is a double gallery in the western part . The chancel with groin vault increases the importance of the space.

The pulpit with ornaments , angels and the crowning sculpture of John the Baptist dates from around 1780. Other Catholic saints adorn the room.

The organ was created and installed by a master from Duderstadt between 1929 and 1930 .

The tower bells were cast in Apolda (1914/1964) and Karlsruhe (2008).
