history

Bronze baptismal font (13th century)

There are no sources about a previous building. It was probably a wooden church and already belonged to the churches that were built in the 9th century during the missionary period of the Sachsenland . It was subordinate to the Archdeacon Ahlden in the diocese of Minden . The patronage (the patronage) of the patron John the Baptist shows only the churches in Ahlden, Soltau and Walsrode .

Of the original church building, only the base of the tower made of lawn iron stone remained . In the 14th century , a Gothic nave was built in place of the Romanesque nave . The old buttresses and a pointed arch window still remind of it today.

After Duke Ernst the Confessor introduced the Reformation in the Celler Land , the church was expanded in 1597 by the builder Jakob Reis with an extension in the north. The church was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War and the archives were also lost. Church registers have only been available again since 1668.

In 1822, a renovation was made in the southern part, which was equivalent to a new building. The current nave was extended and converted into a classical church .

Furnishing

In 1822 the interior of the church was given its current, classicistic appearance. A circumferential gallery connects the pulpit altar with the organ. In front of the altar is a bronze baptismal font from the 13th century .

organ

organ

It can be traced that the organ builder Jonas Weigel from Braunschweig installed an organ in the church in 1630, during the Thirty Years' War . During the war it was badly damaged and had to be subjected to major repairs. In 1752 the organ builder Christian Friedrich Matthay from Hanover carried out a reconstruction or a new building. After the reconstruction of the church in 1822, Christian Bethmann also completely rebuilt the organ in 1824 . This was expanded and renovated in 1933. In 1975 the organ building company Emil Hammer carried out another fundamental renovation . The external appearance (the organ prospectus ) from 1824 was retained here. Today the organ has 24 registers on 2 manuals and pedal.
