The St. Kilian Church in Oberelsbach.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Kilian is the village church of Oberelsbach , one in Lower Franconia nearby market . The church is dedicated to St. Kilian consecrated. Oberelsbach is the center of the parish community "Immanuel in the Hohe Rhön".

The church is one of the architectural monuments of Oberelsbach and is registered under the number D-6-73-149-4 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

After a previous church building from 1601 was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1760, St. Kilian's Church was built from 1760 to 1784 under Johann Michael and Georg Schmitt from Königshofen .

The high altar made by Christian Lux from Bad Neustadt an der Saale was taken over from the previous church.

The two side altars made by sculptor Kaspar Hippeli ( Nordheim ) and carpenter Hans Valentin Katzenberger (Oberelsbach) were created in 1775.

In 1672, today's baptismal font of the church was purchased. The gallery parapet was built around 1770, the pulpit around 1780.

The church tower with dome and lantern as well as arched sound windows protrudes in the middle from the southern facade of the nave .

The nave has four window axes .

The somewhat unusually north-facing choir has just closed.

Furnishing

The altarpiece of the high altar shows the Franconian saints Kilian , Kolonat and Totnan .

The side altars are decorated with figures of St. Joachim , Anna , Georg and Florian equipped.
