The Sankt Konrad Church is a Catholic church in the northern Brandenburg community of Wandlitz . It was built in the years 1936/37 according to plans by the builder Carl Kühn in the Wandlitzsee settlement.

Building history

At the beginning of the 20th century, the vicarage of Wandlitz belonged to the dean's office in Berlin-Reinickendorf . The pastor responsible for the village of Wandlitz, Josef Brzycki, came from Biesenthal ; he had acquired a building plot in Stolzenhagener Strasse (today's Thälmannstrasse) for the rapidly growing Catholic community and now commissioned the construction of his own church with a rectory building. From the laying of the foundation stone on October 15, 1936 to the consecration of the house, just 7 months passed. The church building was named after Konrad von Parzham , who was canonized in 1934. The consecration was carried out by the Berlin bishop Konrad Graf von Preysing . The purification of the Catholic churches, initiated by the Vatican in the 1960s, led to the simplification of the interior of the church in 1972. In 1980, 1992 and 2000 the nave and the facades were renovated.

description

It is a simple hall church with a natural stone- clad gable and a 20-meter-high bell tower clad with slate . The external dimensions of the building are around 20 meters in length and 10 meters in width.

In the bell tower there were two bronze bells , the larger of the two had towards the end of World War II for the production of military equipment to be delivered. It was not until 2007 that a new bell could be cast in the Lauchhammer art and bell foundry with the help of an anonymous donation. It was consecrated - with incense and anointing oil - on November 15, 2007 by Cardinal Georg Sterzinsky from Berlin ; she was given the name "Saint Konrad". She rang the bell for the service for the first time in Advent 2008. The basic tones of the two bells are harmoniously coordinated with those of the old village church of Wandlitz .

Interior of the church building

Nave

The nave with a north-south orientation consists of a chancel , which is surrounded by the altar , a statue of Holy Brother Konrad (a Bavarian wood carving) with a St. Konrad reliquary underneath (right side) and a statue of Mary with Child ( left side) is limited. There is also an ambo and a historical tabernacle in the choir . The altarpiece is a triptych painted by Egbert Lammers and was inaugurated in August 1941. It depicts the life phases of the birth of Christ (left wing), Christ on the cross (middle part), the resurrection of Christ (right wing) and, on the predella, other scenes from the life of Jesus .

Furnishing

From 1959 to 2006 the church only had a harmonium from the Lindholm company from Borna , which had its place on the gallery . In 2006 a donated electronic organ replaced the harmonium as a church musical instrument . On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the church, the “Sacral Organ Content D 2600” built by the Dutch company Content was inaugurated. It was financed through donations from parishioners. The cantor Joachim Buhrmann from Schönow played the new instrument at the inauguration . On the same occasion, the Wandlitz community administration also provided 30,000 euros for further restoration measures in the church.

The church also has simple wooden seating and colored glass mosaics in small semicircular windows on the south side. The pastel-colored side church windows were donated by a family of the community when the church was built, as indicated by small tablets under the windows.

14 panels on the Way of the Cross , which hang on the longitudinal walls of the church, were also made by the artist Lammers . Between these panels there are clay reliefs with the Sacred Heart and Saint Joseph .

Rectory

The directly attached one and a half story rectory has a gable roof and a floor area of around 40 square meters. After a large-scale solar system was installed on the roof of the rectory in 2002 as part of the “330 parishes for solar energy” initiative , two demonstration boards in front of the church show the current status of energy generation and the amount of heated water.

Surroundings of the church building

Outer cross on the church

In 1995 a wooden cross was erected right next to the church portal , which was designed in color by foreign participants in the World Youth Day , which took place in Cologne in 2005. The way to the main entrance was paved with Portuguese paving stones , a newly built ramp for wheelchair users or prams makes access to the church interior barrier-free . An air stone was set up from donations and completes the small church forecourt.

Parish activities

In addition to the typical church services, the St. Konrad parish is characterized by a wide range of social activities, including parish festivals, schoolchildren in the church , a church choir, organization of children's church days, etc. v. a. m. The nationwide Hungertuch XXL campaign attracted a great deal of attention in 2006: in 48 hours around 500 children and young people had designed the world's largest hunger cloth with an area of 220 square meters on the subject of justice before God's face . - The cloth is in the possession of the Church of St. Konrad, it can be loaned to other parishes.

Particularly noteworthy is the construction of a multi-generation house , which was built in the immediate vicinity of the rectory from May 2008 and was officially opened in July 2009. In 2006 the Freundeskreis Conradinum e.V. was responsible for the organization and financing of this project . V. founded, which now has more than 40 members. This association is particularly dedicated to the coexistence of several generations in the family and offers numerous aids and leisure activities. The building, which was planned and executed by an architectural firm in Wandlitz, was officially given the name Conradinum .

A Catholic kindergarten ( toddler group ) and the Malteser Jugend Wandlitz are entertained and instructed.
